About Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a holistic system of healing which has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. In this country it is often thought of primarily for pain relief, in fact it can be used to treat a wide range of illnesses, reduce symptoms of stress, and improve overall wellbeing of the patient.
Traditional Chinese medical philosophy explains that our health relies on our body's dynamic vital energy (known as Qi) flowing smoothly and harmoniously along channels throughout our whole body. Qi has equal and opposite qualities—Yin and Yang, which should remain in balance. When the flow of Qi becomes blocked or Yin and Yang become unbalanced, we may become ill.
Acupuncture uses the insertion of very fine needles into the channels just beneath the skin, in order to stimulate the body to rebalance and unblock the flow of Qi to restore health. Acupuncture aims to treat the whole person; physically, emotionally and spiritually, to reach equilibrium.
